This instruction provides the requirements and defines the roles of applicable organizations within the DAF EMS framework. It establishes an enterprise EMS, based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2015 standard, Environmental management systems —Requirements with guidance for use, as modified to meet the DAF’s organizational structure and mission requirements in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 4715.17, Environmental Management Systems.
This document has been revised and should be completely reviewed. Changes include updated DAF directive guidance and instructions for environmental spill and release management and reporting actions. It relays policy instructing bases on reporting all usage or accidental releases of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) containing per -/polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). There are important updates on other environmental reporting related to enforcement actions (EAs), and new guidance on incorporating risk manage ment into the EMS framework at base and organizational levels.
