What this publication covers

This manual provides broad guidance for aircraft operations. It is consolidated to help aviators to identify and synthesize potentially applicable standards and procedures, and to understand application and waiver authority. General guidance cannot address every situation; therefore, Major Commands (MAJCOMs) and wing commanders should provide additional guidance further supporting safe aircraft operations. In the absence of specific guidance, aircrew will seek clarification and use sound judgment.

What changed in this edition

Major changes include incorporating GM 2021-01; clarified crew rest waiver authority and expanded flight duty period guidance; incorporating DoD FIH update related to cold temperature operations (Chapter 4); expansion and clarification of IFR takeoff minimum requirements and IFR departure procedures. (Chapter 5); incorporating FAA/ NGA updates to circling design criteria and publishing specification (Chapter 18); FLIP Decision Tree (Attachment 6);IFR Filing Tree (Attachment 7); Departure Decision Tree (Attachment 8); A margin bar (|) indicates newly revised material

Publications state their own changes on page 1 — behind a PDF the official host will not serve to a search engine. This is that section, verbatim. It describes the edition above, not every historical change.
